What we built
Architected and implemented a digital ethics oversight platform to harmonize clinical trial governance, streamline review processes, and strengthen transparency across multiple African countries.
The problem
Africa conducts only 1–2% of global clinical trials despite bearing ~25% of the global disease burden. Ethics committees often lack harmonized processes, digital systems, and sustainable funding.
How we helped
TRACE builds capacity for National Ethics Committees (NECs) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), optimizes digital oversight platforms, and engages policymakers to strengthen governance. It also supports accreditation and financial sustainability plans.
The results
Countries like Rwanda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Kenya now benefit from streamlined ethics reviews, digital CTA systems, and improved transparency. This fosters high-quality, ethical research across Africa.
